زيارة العميد البحري فرانك برادلي الى لبنان  

تضيء على دعم الولايات المتحدة للجيش اللبناني   

زار قائد العمليات الخاصة  في القيادة الوسطى الأميركية العميد البحري فرانك برادلي لبنان  في 12 و13 من الشهر الجاري لإجراء اجتماعات مع نظرائه في الجيش اللبناني حيث أكد مجدداً التزام الولايات المتحدة بدعم احترافية الجيش اللبناني وتقدمه.   

خلال الزيارة، التقى العميد البحري برادلي بقائد الجيش العماد جوزاف عون، بالإضافة إلى مسؤولين في الجيش في قوات العمليات الخاصة والقوات الجوية. وخلال المداخلات قال العميد البحري برادلي: "على مدى سنوات عديدة كانت لدينا علاقة قوية ودائمة مع الجيش اللبناني وقواته الخاصة. إن الحفاظ على هذه العلاقة لأمر ضروري لتعزيز الثقة والمصداقية".   

بالإضافة إلى هذه الزيارات الرفيعة المستوى التي يقوم بها كبار المسؤولين العسكريين الأميركيين، تتضمن شراكة الحكومة الأميركية مع الجيش اللبناني أيضاً تقديم هبات من المعدات والإمدادات من خلال التمويل العسكري الأجنبي. وفي هذا الصدد، شاركت السفيرة دوروثي شيا في أواخر شهر كانون الثاني في حفل صغير لمناسبة هبة من ثلاثة مروحيات من طراز "هيوي 2" كان قد جري تقديمها، حيث شددت على أهمية التعاون والتنسيق المستمرين بين الولايات المتحدة ولبنان، وتحديدا في قطاع الدفاع. وتقدر قيمة المروحيات الثلاث، التي ستشكل جزءاً حاسماً من عمليات الجيش اللبناني الأمنية الحدودية والبرية، بأكثر من 32 مليون دولار.   

قالت السفيرة شيا بإن الجيش اللبناني قد "عمل طوال العام الماضي للإستجابة لاحتياجات بلدكم وشعبكم"، وأن عملكم هذا "يبرز وطنيتكم وتضحياتكم الذاتية وخدمة مواطنيكم، كما يعكس قيمنا المشتركة. وبسبب هذه القيم بالذات، تفخر الولايات المتحدة بالتزامنا الطويل الأمد بالجيش اللبناني." كما أشارت السفيرة إلى أن "هذه المعدات، شأنها شأن الهبات التي قدمناها من قبل، تساهم بشكل مباشر في قدرات الجيش اللبناني الاحترافية بما يضمن جهوزيته العملياتية للدفاع عن لبنان وشعبه".   

هذا ومنذ العام 2006، تجاوزت المساعدات التي قدمتها حكومة الولايات المتحدة إلى الجيش اللبناني ما قيمته ملياري دولار أميركي. 

United States Support for the Lebanese Armed Forces   

Highlighted by visit of Rear Admiral Frank M. Bradley  

On February 12-13, 2021, Rear Admiral Frank M. Bradley, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command Central, visited Lebanon to conduct meetings with his Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) counterparts, and reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting the LAF’s professionalism and advancement.   

During the visit, Rear Admiral Bradley met with Chief of Defense Joseph Aoun, as well as LAF officials from the Lebanese Special Operations Forces and Air Force.  In these interactions, Rear Admiral Bradley stated, “For many years we have had a strong and enduring relationship with the LAF and their special forces, maintaining this relationship is essential in promoting trust and legitimacy.”  

In addition to such high-level visits by senior U.S. military officials, the U.S. Government’s partnership with the LAF also includes donations of equipment and supplies through foreign military funding.  In this regard, in late January, Ambassador Dorothy Shea participated in a small ceremony to commemorate the donation of three Huey II helicopters, highlighting the importance of ongoing cooperation and coordination between the United States and Lebanon, specifically in the defense sector.  The three helicopters, which will form a critical part of the LAF’s border and land security operations, are valued at over $32 million.   

Ambassador Shea remarked that the LAF has “worked throughout the last year to respond to the needs of your country and its people,” and that “this highlights your patriotism, self-sacrifice, and service to your fellow citizens, and reflects our shared values.  Precisely because of those values, the United States is proud of our longstanding commitment to the LAF.”  She also noted that “this equipment, like donations we have made before, directly contributes to the professional capabilities of the LAF, ensuring its operational readiness to defend Lebanon and its people.”    

Since 2006, United States Government assistance to the LAF has surpassed $2 billion.
